Applications to STS are reviewed in two formal rounds: Early Decision (Grades 2-12) - November 30 and Regular Decision (Kindergarten-Grade 12) - February 10, before switching to Rolling Admissions on February 11. Families are encouraged to apply early in the process to ensure availability in each grade. Steps required to complete the application are listed below.

The deadline to apply for Kindergarten and Grade 1 is February 10 for students joining in September.

1. Online Application

The online application includes questions for parents and applicants. Families are now able to submit one application for multiple students at the same time.

2. Confidential School Report Form

The CSR helps give the Admissions Committee a sense for the applicant’s potential to succeed in and out of the classroom. While ideally completed by a current teacher, a letter of reference from a coach, music instructor, day care provider, or community leader may serve in its place.

3. Most recent Report Card or progress report

Required for those applicants currently attending pre-school and kindergarten programs. The Report Card or progress report should include grades and teachers’ comments regarding the student's academic and social progress.

4. Individual Assessment/Interview

Applicants and their families are encouraged to visit STS in order to experience classes, meet teachers, and learn more about our community. Individual Assessments take place during campus visits and are conducted one-on-one with the applicant and Director of Enrollment.  Visits can be scheduled Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. When a visit is not possible, a Skype interview and additional references or assessments may replace the Individual Assessment.

5. Group Assessment

Group Assessments for Kindergarten and Grade 1 each take place in February the year a student will enroll at STS (September entry). Each Group Assessment involves small groups of applicants working with each other and our Kindergarten and/or Grade 1 teaching teams to assess pre-readiness skills in literacy, numeracy, and social responsibility. Additional details regarding Group Assessments are sent to applicant families throughout the application process.

Please be in touch with the Enrollment Office (admissions@sts.ab.ca) if you have questions about the application process. We understand unique circumstances may arise and welcome the opportunity to discuss with your family.

Notification for completed applications:

Applications completed prior to February 10 (Kindergarten and Grade 1 Deadline) are notified in late February.
Applications completed after February 10 are notified 2-3 weeks after receiving the completed application.

Early Decision applications are due by November 30. Regular Decision applications are due by February 10.

The CSR helps give the Admissions Committee a sense for the applicant’s potential to succeed in and out of the classroom. 3. Final Report Cards from the previous two school years

The Report Cards should show grades and comments for all terms and courses taken throughout the year. Please feel free to submit each term Report Card if all terms are not summarized on the final Report Card.

4. Most recent Report Card or progress report

The Report Card should contain grades and comments from teachers. If a Report Card or progress report is unavailable prior to the application deadline by which you are applying, please submit final Report Cards for the previous two years.

5. Individual Assessment/Interview

Applicants and their families are encouraged to visit STS in order to experience classes, meet teachers, and learn more about our community. Visits can be scheduled Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. The interview and assessment take place either during the campus visit or on an alternate date. When a visit is not possible, a Skype interview and additional references or assessments may replace the Individual Assessment. Applicants for Grade 6 are required to take the SSAT. Please visit www.ssat.org to register.

6. Character Skills Snapshot (Grade 6)

Character and personal growth are key components of Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School’s mission to develop well-balanced students for a life of purpose. Report Cards and academic assessments only give insight into one aspect of our applicants. The Character Skills Snapshot gives us additional information to help aid in the transition to our school and our ability to help your child thrive. The Character Skills Snapshot is strongly encouraged for all applicants Grades 6-12. Registration takes place through the SSAT website.
