The STS Annual Events Committee introduced an ongoing series to give alumni a VIP pass to experience each other’s special businesses and skills. This exclusive opportunity for STS alumni and their guests (who don't have to be STS alumni), is a great way to network and socialize while learning something new.
Master the Art of Making Cocktails!
Like cocktails and want to take it to the next level? Master the art of making cocktails at this workshop with fellow alumnus, Nick Suche ‘07, owner of Shelter Cocktail Bar and Lounge, Calgary. Our cocktail class teach you the fundamentals behind cocktailing, liquor theory, and more! In this cocktail course we are going to delve into the rich history of cocktails and the base spirits that comprise them. This class will include a comprehensive history of cocktail culture, from mixology’s origins in the 1,800’s, back to the gin craze of 1,695, through prohibition, and into the craft cocktail resurgence of the early 2,000’s. With both theory, and hands-on learning, (as well as a few drinks along the way), we’re tackling cocktailing 101.

Coffee Tasting and Brewing Workshop at Monogram Coffee
Join us for an interactive and fun COFFEE TASTING AND BREWING WORKSHOP with Monogram Coffee Co-Founder and STS Alumnus, Jeremy Ho ’05.

Explore the wonderful world of coffee.
To start, participants will learn the process of “cupping”, a unique industry standard way of evaluating coffee. Jeremy will lead you through a guided tasting by comparing two very different coffees side by side and discussing the differences in acidity, sweetness, aroma, body and ﬂavour. Discover the reasons why each coffee tastes the way it does by learning about the variables that inﬂuence taste, from the terroir, agriculture, processing, shipping, roasting and brewing.
After the tasting session, Jeremy will guide you through a step-by-step process on manually brewing exceptional coffee. Get hands on and explore the science behind extracting coffee, and learn how to control and tweak all the variables associated with brewing to optimize the coffee to your personal tastes. Experiment with new brew methods and learn how to re-vitalize old favourites.

This class will be a Christmas Baking class focused on making chocolates.

This exclusive opportunity is for our STS alumni community and their guests (who don’t have to be STS alumni) is the first for this season in our Celebrating Alumni Series event, showcasing STS alumni and their many talents.

Holiday baking and dessert workshop with Marnie Fudge '87
STS alumni spent an interactive and fun afternoon of unique holiday baking in the kitchen of award-winning chef, entrepreneur and STS alumna, Marnie Fudge ’87, Saturday, November 21, 2015 at Cuisine et Chateau. Alumni had the opportunity to catch up with friends while learning new and elegant ways to sweeten up the holiday season.
"The Holiday Baking and Dessert Workshop with Marnie Fudge '87 was not only informative and interactive, but delicious too. We were warmly greeted with a mimosa and introduced to the other alumni and guests. After a baking demonstration, we broke off into teams to try everything for ourselves. We had a brief recess to enjoy a lunch while our various desserts were baking/cooling. At the end of the session we left with carry bag of samples of all the desserts we had made that day and recipes to re-create them at home. I look forward to returning to Marnie's other workshops and other future alumni events." Emily Struck '02
The secret to shucking oysters with Eric Giesbrecht '92, Meta4 Foods
STS alumni revealed their inner-oyster-opener, all while discovering the secret to shucking oysters without injury at the sold-out Celebrating Alumni Series event hosted by Eric Giesbrecht ’92 of Oystertribe and Meta4 Foods, Friday, March 20, 2015. This was our third event in our Celebrating Alumni Series for STS alumni to experience each other's businesses and skills. Coffee tasting and brewing workshop with Jeremy Ho '05, Monogram Coffee
STS alumni were guided through the art of brewing and tasting coffee by fellow alumnus Jeremy Ho '05 on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at his newly launched Monogram Coffee location. This was the second event in our Celebrating Alumni Series for STS alumni to experience each other's businesses and skills. Thank you Jeremy for the delightful evening of coffee learning.

An interactive culinary event with Marnie Fudge '87, Cuisine et Chateau
STS alumni got cooking with alumna Marie Fudge ’87 at the first ever Celebrating Alumni Series event on January 29, 2015 at Cuisine et Chateau. Our alumni’s kitchen chops were put to good use as alumni joined friends to prepare a gourmet meal, including homemade gnocchi and crepes, all while enjoying a wine pairing and great company.

The venue was ideal for re-engaging with old friends while allowing us to learn a few culinary tricks in the kitchen.
