STS Celebrates its 12th Annual Calgary Alumni Dinner
On Thursday, May 9, 2019 we held our 12th Annual Alumni Dinner at Gasoline Alley in Heritage Park. Over 215 members of the STS community came together to honour our 2019 Distinguished Alumna, Mrs. Sloan Pipella-Clark ’81, long serving retiree, Ms. Carrie Duncan-Moore, and retiring employees, Ms. Maureen Beddome and Ms. Karen Foley.
During this fabulous evening of friendship and fellowship, guests were greeted by the 2020 Prefects who assisted with registration and seating. Entertainment by the talented STS Jazz Combo provided the perfect backdrop as guests enjoyed cocktails and mingling. Mark Le Dain ’08 did a superb job as host and Master of Ceremonies and his humour and familiarity with the audience kept everyone engaged. Pat Sullivan, former faculty, delivered the invocation and guests were then treated to a fabulous dinner.
Heart-warming speeches were given by Joan Sveen, former faculty and alumni parent, Carol Grant-Watt, Head of School, our 2019 Distinguished Alumni Award recipient Sloan Pipella-Clark’ 81, and long serving retiree, Carrie Duncan-Moore. Highlights of the dinner included video tributes to Sloan and Carrie, a beautiful musical tribute by Faye Steinberg ’89, the wine/spirit pull which raised $2100.00, and the 50/50 draw which raised $1370.00. All monies raised at this event will go towards the STS Family Bursary Fund.

A special thank you goes out to our generous event supporters who donated wine and spirits for our draw, Peter Stewart ’90 and the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation for donating the ‘game package’ for the early bird prize draw, photographer Arzina Jaffer ’18, Brian Uzick, former faculty, for helping to sell our wine pull draw throughout the evening, and our print sponsor Oil City Press.
