On Saturday, September 23, the Junior B Girls Volleyball team traveled to Olds, Ab to compete in the Deer Meadow Invitational tournament. It was a great tournament to start off our season even though we only had eight players. The girls got a lot of play time in five matches, in a hot and loud gym. The team has been working on a new system and learning to play together. They demonstrated excellent teamwork, communication and commitment. We had strong serving, good first passes and had some solid net play. They already started attacking! Our gold medal match was against the home team, who was a very strong skilled group of girls. We had lost to them earlier in the day. The girls were nervous in the first set and let the other team pounce hard defeating us 25-5. In the second set, we regrouped, found our Spartan pride and won. After this win, the girls were determined. They were focused, relaxed and supportive of each other. They worked hard and never gave up on a ball. This is what led us to our 15-11 victory. Our parent support was outstanding and they cheered every point!
The girls demonstrated excellent Spartan athleticism and pride. Go Spartans!
