Making the PYP Happen: Grade 5 Outdoor School
Our Grade 5 Spartans have developed quite the reputation; a cohort with grit and perseverance! Despite -30 weather landing right on top of our outdoor school, students bundled up and took experiential learning to a whole new level. Grade 5s learned about layering, frostbite prevention, self-care, group care and recognized their capability in overcoming challenges.
The transdisciplinary learning experiences connected the Grade 5 Unit of Inquiry’s central idea about weather to the outdoor endeavours on our beautiful STS campus. ‘Carnaval de STS’ allowed for French curriculum connections with Madame Goldsworthy. Bringing Carnaval to life was a highlight through the creation of snow sculptures, quinzees and the beloved ‘Chateau de glace’.
Thank you to all of our community members who took part in our ice block challenge. Congratulations to Buchan who took the lead by only 3 points! Grade 5s chose to donate the $70 raised from the ice block challenge to The Mustard Seed. A big thank you also goes to our parent volunteers, bistro staff and facilities team who helped make Grade 5 Outdoor School such a success.
