STS competes at the Senior National Debate tournament
On February 10, Stephanie P. ’20, Kirk S. ’20, Griffin E.B. ’20 and Zaki L. ’20 travelled to St. John’s Ravenscourt School in Winnipeg to compete in the Senior National Public Speaking Competition. Students must compete in four categories including Persuasive Speech, Impromptu Speaking, Oral Interpretation of Prose or Poetry and Parliamentary Debate. Stephanie, Kirk and Zaki advanced to the finals in Oral Interpretation of Prose and Zaki advanced to finals in Persuasive Speech where he is to be congratulated on placing second!
The students must compete in each event twice during the round robin portion and, the students’ scores for all four events are tabulated. The top six students then qualify to represent Canada at the Individual World’s Public Speaking Championships. This year we are pleased to announce that Zaki L. '20 finished in 4th overall out of 44 students! Therefore, he will represent STS and will part of the Canadian team at the World’s Individual Public Speaking Championships held this April 11-17 in Toronto at Branksome Hall. At this tournament, Zaki must compete in four events including Impromptu Speaking, Interpretation of Prose or Poetry, Persuasive Speech or After Dinner Speech and Parliamentary Debate. We wish him well!
