The story begins seven years ago. Shiv Ruparell '15, fifteen years old, ambitious and wide-eyed, was searching for the perfect moment to show his true self to the Strathcona Tweedsmuir School community.
On Saturday, February 1, thirty students participated at the Provincial Speech Tournament hosted by Alberta Debate and Speech Association and Sir Winston Churchill High School.

It's 7:00 a.m. on a Tuesday morning and the sounds of sneakers on the floor and athletes calling for the ball drift out from the Sandy Heard Sports Centre. It's not just any normal Tuesday, it's the first day of school in September and the gym is filled with about 30 students working hard and having fun together for volleyball team tryouts, before classes have even started.
This past weekend, Zaki L.’20 competed in the Canadian National Public Speaking Championship at St. John’s Ravenscourt School in Winnipeg, MB.
In recognition of National Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week our students organized a number of events focused on bringing this important issue to the forefront, empowering all members of the STS community to play a role in building and reinforcing positive relationships, and preventing bullying.
It’s 2:00 a.m. and even the birds are asleep. The forest is dark, with a mixture of shadows and shapes that lead one’s imagination to create all sorts of fairy tale images; walking, talking trees (Ents, if you are a J.R.R. Tolkien’s fan), trolls, witches and big, bad wolves.
Arbaz Q. ’21, Max C. ’20 and Kirk S.’ 20 participated in the International Independent Schools Public Speaking Competition (IISPSPC) at Buckingham, Browne and Nichols School in Boston, MA last week. This is the largest public speaking competition in the world with 44 schools participating from Canada, the United States, Bermuda, India, Peru, South Africa, South Korea, and the United Kingdom.
The faculty mentorship program at STS was introduced in 2006 in order to formally mentor new faculty and guide their induction into the school community over an extended period, as they begin their careers at STS.

This summer, I was l honoured to participate in the Heritage Youth Researcher Summer program (HYRS) at the University of Calgary.
Last week, STS welcomed over 60 new students in Elementary, Middle and Senior School to attend our Shadow mornings, an annual event hosted by our STS Enrollment department.
From Thursday, April 11 to Tuesday, April 16 Zaki Lakhani ’20 represented STS and Canada at the 31st World’s Individual Debating and Public Speaking Championships held at Branksome Hall, an independent girl’s school in Toronto.
