Middle Years Programme (MYP) Coordinator

Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS) invites applications for the position of our Middle Years Programme (MYP) Coordinator.  The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, enthusiastic and innovative individual who appreciates working in a collaborative environment within and across various departments. As STS is a technology-rich school, the successful candidate should have experience using technology in the classroom.

The MYP Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Curriculum and Instruction, the Director of Educational Technology & Academic Programming as well as collaborate with the Principals of the Middle and Senior Schools, the Primary Years Programme (PYP) Coordinator and the Diploma Programme (DP) Coordinator to meet the required standards and practices outlined by the IBO. The successful candidate will need to demonstrate an understanding of the Middle Years Programme, a sound pedagogical framework of inquiry instruction and concept-based learning. The successful candidate must be an effective communicator and confident presenter as the MYP Coordinator is expected to conduct training and professional development with teachers, lead parent information evenings, and work with large groups of students across the MYP.  The MYP Coordinator will also work closely with teachers to support them the ongoing development of their unit planners within the MYP framework. 

This full-time position will have a teaching component in addition to the MYP Coordinator responsibilities.  The teaching component will be confirmed once the successful candidate has been identified.  This position commences August 23, 2018 and will lead to a permanent contract upon a successful evaluation.

All faculty are expected to contribute to STS’s co-curricular activities and demonstrate commitment to students’ growth outside of the classroom.  Teachers new to STS participate in a dynamic and supportive mentorship program. The successful candidate must hold (or be eligible to obtain) an Alberta Teaching Certificate.
