Payroll Clerk

Reports to: Human Resources Specialist
Position Group: Support Staff
Status: Part-Time (3.5 days per week)

The Position

The Payroll Clerk is responsible for the preparation and processing of monthly payroll while providing additional support to the Human Resources Specialist.

Core Areas of Responsibility

  • Monthly payroll preparation including changes, additions, deletions, adjustments, journal entries, and wire transfers.
  • Preparation and balancing of monthly payroll reports. 
  • Updating payroll and benefits spreadsheets.
  • Key Administrator for WEB Record of Employment (Service Canada).
  • Administration of payroll taxes and WCB for support staff.
  • Preparation and compliance reporting for T4s, WCB A300 report, T2202As, NR4s and child care expense letters.
  • Statistical analysis and research of compliance practices.
  • Administering web access changes and submissions to our benefit carriers and providing information to employees.
  • Balancing of accounts.
  • Preparation of Registered Pension Plan Annual Information Return (AIR), Government of Alberta Form 7 and any additional reports as required.

Experience, Skills, Technical and Behavioural Competencies

  • Payroll certification.
  • Payroll, Benefits and Human Resources administration knowledge.
  • Three to five years payroll experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail, accuracy of computer information.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects or assignments at one time.
  • Thorough research and problem-solving skills.
  • Proven ability to meet deadlines while maintaining compliance and regulatory standards.
  • Capable of providing a balanced and common-sense approach to routine and complex issues.
  • Excel at working well while under pressure.
