Emergency Financial Aid Relief Fund

We need your help to keep our family together!

Dear STS Community, emergency financial aid banner 100

All members of our STS family - alumni, students and their families, and employees are top-of-mind during these very challenging times. Please know, we are dedicated to supporting you, by whatever means possible, in order to keep our community strong and our family together.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting school closures, our remarkable faculty launched the Remote Alternate Program Instructional Delivery (RAPID), offering continued learning and engagement through online curriculum for all of our students. This plan, and the immense efforts of our faculty, have ensured that our students will continue to flourish and succeed.

Also, in support of our alumni and parent community, we have launched a community-wide business directory to celebrate and support small businesses impacted by the current economic climate and the pandemic. In addition, we have been promoting STS community stories, business profiles, and success stories through our social media channels, and have launched “Spartan Talks”, virtual events showcasing alumni in a variety of fields, and a mentoring program to connect current Senior School students with alumni, providing advice, coaching and networking opportunities. We believe a community that networks and supports each other stays together.

Thanks to the past generosity of the STS community, we have awarded over $350,000 in financial aid to students who would otherwise be unable to attend STS due to financial constraints for this upcoming school year 2020-2021.

Yet, despite the combined efforts of everyone involved, many of our families remain in dire need of additional financial assistance to ensure their children's education at STS is not derailed by recent extraordinary challenges. Currently, more than 30 students require financial assistance that we are unable to help.  Yet, we are committed to supporting them and keeping families together by whatever means possible and we are asking for your help.

We are asking that you consider a one-time gift to support families in need of financial assistance to help keep their children at STS for the upcoming school year. This will provide much-needed short-term, partial tuition assistance for STS students, whose families are critically impacted by the economy, resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic.

AS A STUDENT WHO WOULD LIKELY NOT BE ABLE TO ATTEND STS IF IT WASN’T FOR THE FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, I AM ETERNALLY GRATEFUL FOR THE WAY YOU HAVE CHANGED MY LIFE. GOING TO STS WAS ALWAYS A DREAM OF MINE SINCE I HAD HEARD OF IT, BUT COMING FROM A RELATIVELY LARGE FAMILY I NEVER THOUGHT IT WOULD BE POSSIBLE. THE BURSARY PROGRAM HAS MADE THAT DREAM BECOME A REALITY AND I TRULY DON’T KNOW WHERE I WOULD BE WITHOUT IT. FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART, THANK YOU. –GRADE 11 STUDENT

The impact you could make on student’s life at this critical time can not be diminished. For many, leaving STS – and their beloved teachers, friends, and campus – would be heart-breaking. Please help us keep them at home at STS.

For those that have already given, we extend our deepest thanks. Despite this global crisis, our community always comes together, as is the STS way. We are solutions-focused, supportive, positive, and kind – all because we believe in education and giving kids the very best.

Please donate to our Emergency FA Relief Fund today and give struggling families the peace-of-mind that they will always be a part of our STS family. All donations to Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School are tax-deductible.

On behalf of our students, staff and faculty, thank you!

Head of School

“STS has inspired our daughter in more ways than we thought possible. This year our daughter has become a perpetual inventor, always thinking of ways to improve people’s lives. We are thankful to the incredible faculty of teachers at STS, and how they encourage creative thinking.

Similarly, STS has inspired our daughter to try new things. This year she developed a love of floor hockey, public speaking, and robotics. STS has also inspired our daughter academically. Her excitement and enthusiasm for learning is priceless. Every year we are thrilled to see our daughter in classes with students who are equally excited about their education. STS is more than a school. It is a community. We cannot imagine our daughter pursuing her education anywhere else.

Your financial assistance has enabled our daughter to continue at STS. Thank you for your generosity”—grateful parent
