Ways to Support STS
There are several different ways to support STS with a philanthropic investment.
Since the founding of Strathcona-Tweedmsuir School, alumni, parents, grandparents, faculty, staff and friends of STS have been helping enhance the STS experience with contributions that support our vision and mission. As an independent school, we offer different ways to contribute:
Annual giving is the entry point for donors to include STS in their charitable giving. Annual giving generates gift revenue to be disbursed annually, providing vital support for school priorities, core activities, program enrichment and school development. At STS philanthropy provides valued funds which fund the extra margin of excellence over and above that funded by tuition.
The Inspiring Possibilities campaign has raised $25.33 million to-date one conversation at a time. Campaign pledges are meaningful in size, often span several years, and provide significant support to advance a bold vision. Generous pledges emanate from a conversation with staff and dedicated volunteers. Start the conversation to consider a meaningful gift from your family to this campaign today.
Generations of alumni and families have shared the heritage of this treasured institution. Throughout our history, leaders in the STS community have looked to the future by donating land, supporting capital projects, and renewing or refurbishing facilities to meet the changing needs of students and faculty. Today’s students are the beneficiaries of significant building programs, and we need to continue to build this support as STS looks to the future.
Endowment supports financial aid – encouraging diversity and allowing the School to attract outstanding students of merit, regardless of their ability to pay full tuition.
Bequest and Planned Giving
The simplest of Planned Gifts is in the form of bequest providing direction in a donor’s Will to give STS a final gift. Bequests may be stated as a percentage of an estate, as the residual of an estate or as a specific sum.
Planting a seed for STS families and alumni to include the STS Foundation in your estate planning is a long term strategy to provide long term stable funding well into the future. Consult your financial and estate advisor to understand the tax benefits of making a planned gift to the STS Foundation. Then have a conversation with staff to ensure your wishes are understood and on file for the future.
Of significance, Bill Atkinson left a $250,000 bequest to STS in the late 1960’s which was instrumental in establishing STS on our country campus. You too can be as visionary as Mr. Atkinson. Join the Atkinson Society of visionary, long term donors and let us know you have made provision for STS’ future in your estate plans.
Corporate Matching Gift
Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match any charitable contributions or volunteer hours made by their employees. To find out if your company has a matching gift policy, please visit www.matchinggifts.com/sts.ab.ca and enter your employer's name in the search bar.
If your company is eligible, request a matching gift form from your employer, and send it completed and signed with your gift. We will do the rest. The impact of your gift to STS may be doubled or possibly tripled! Some companies match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses.
