What you'll need to apply

1. Online Application

The first step in entering Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School is to fill out the online application form. Please apply as early as possible, while there is still availability. All of the remaining steps will also be completed online. Once you submit your application form, our staff will guide you through your student’s application checklist.

2. Interview and Tour

After you submit your online application, our staff will contact you to arrange an interview. You have the option of completing your interview and tour in person at our campus or through a video call. There will be time for questions and we’ll also complete the required assessment steps for your student during this time.

3. Confidential School Reference Form

This is a reference from a current teacher, guidance counselor, Principal or someone who knows your child well. A person from a school setting should fill out the form. Please ask your reference to send the report directly to us by email, mail or fax.

4. Most Recent Report Card

Have an electronic version of the most recent report card or progress report on hand. Make sure that it contains grades and comments. You can upload it directly during the online application process, or email it to admissions@sts.ab.ca. If you don’t have the most recent report by the application deadline, we ask that you provide a copy as soon as it is available.

5. Final Report Cards

Have electronic versions of your child’s final report cards from the previous two years. You can upload them directly in the online application, or email them to admissions@sts.ab.ca.

6. Formal Assessments

Kindergarten to Grade 6 applicants will complete assessments during your scheduled interview time – either in-person or virtually.  If your child is completing their assessment virtually, we will send you a small package of items that they will complete together during your video call.

Kindergarten and Grade 1 applicants will also visit campus in January during the same year they will begin at STS for a Group Assessment day. Applicants participate in a group assessment to demonstrate readiness skills in literacy, numeracy, and social awareness.

Grades 7 to 12 applicants are required to complete the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School will be offering the test in-person at our school. Test dates are still to be determined.

There are three different ways to write the SSAT. Click here to learn more and sign up for the SSAT today!

7. Character Skills Snapshot

Grades 7-12 applicants are required to complete this short online test. Please visit the Character Skills Snapshot website to register your students to complete this assessment as soon as possible. Why do we want the Character Skills Snapshot? Report cards and academic assessments only give insight into one aspect of your child. We like to have additional information to help students transition to our school and to thrive here.

We look forward to reviewing your application. Please check our important dates page to make sure you meet the deadline!
