What you'll need to apply
All applications are completed online. Once you submit your application, you’ll need to complete the following steps:
1. Online Application
The first step in entering Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School is to fill out the online application form. Please apply as early as possible, while there is still availability. All of the remaining steps will also be completed online. Once you submit your application form, our staff will guide you through your student’s application checklist.
After you submit your online application, our staff will contact you to arrange an interview. At this time all interviews are completed through a video call with your student and family. There will be time for questions and we’ll also complete the required assessment steps for your student during this time.
3. Confidential Student Report Form
This is a reference from a current teacher, guidance counselor, Principal or someone who knows your child well. A person from a school setting should fill out the form; however, it could be from a coach, music instructor or daycare. Please ask your reference to send the report directly to us by email, mail or fax.
4. Most Recent Report Card
Have an electronic version of the most recent report card or progress report on hand. Make sure that it contains grades and comments. You can upload it directly during the online application process, or email it to email@example.com. If you don’t have the most recent report by the application deadline, go on to Step 4.
5. Final Report Cards
Have electronic versions of your child’s final report cards from the previous two years. You can upload them directly in the online application, or email them to firstname.lastname@example.org.
6. Formal Assessments
Kindergarten, Grade 1, and Grade 2 applicants will complete assessments during your scheduled interview time through a video call. At the time of your student’s interview, we will send you a small package of items that your student and an Enrollment office team member will complete together during your video call.
Grades 3-12 applicants are required to complete the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT) as well as a prompted writing sample. These items will all be completed online and from the comfort of home with an Enrollment office team member observing as a proctor.
Are you applying to other Calgary-area private schools? Local private schools in the Calgary-area have decided to standardize on the OLSAT as an entrance examination and are committed to sharing results with each other – please be sure to share this information so we can ensure your student only completes one test.
7. Character Skills Snapshot
Grades 6-12 applicants are required to complete this short online test. Please visit the Character Skills Snapshot website to register your students to complete this assessment as soon as possible. Why do we want the Character Skills Snapshot? Report cards and academic assessments only give insight into one aspect of your child. We like to have additional information to help students transition to our school and to thrive here.
We look forward to reviewing your application. Please check our important dates page to make sure you meet the deadline!
