2024 Distinguished Alumni Recipient - Mr. Todd Worsley '88

It is our pleasure to announce that Mr. Todd Worsley ’88 has been chosen as the recipient of the Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS) 2024 Distinguished Alumni Award – the highest honour bestowed by STS upon its alumni.

This award was established in 2003 to recognize eminent alumni who have made an outstanding contribution to our school. Each year, STS showcases a former student who has stimulated new ideas or developments, shown exceptional dedication, creativity, or leadership, and truly represented the spirit of STS – Nil nisi optimum.

Todd has held a significant connection to STS since 1980. As an alumnus, former parent, donor, Board of Governors Director and Chair, enthusiastic ambassador, and dedicated volunteer, he has been an unwavering supporter of our school for over 40 years. He attended Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School from 1980 to 1985, along with his sister Christy (Stacey) ’86. After Christy’s tragic passing in 1995, the Worsley family endowed two annual creative writing awards, honouring and recognizing her strong connection to the STS community.

In 2009, Todd’s son Willem ’21 began his journey at STS and attended the school for Grades 1 to 4 and then 8 to 12, his record as a “lifer” interrupted only by a brief sojourn in Toronto. Todd cherished being an active member of the STS parent community and getting to know the faculty, staff, parents, and students as Willem progressed through his years at STS. Todd joined the Board of Governors in 2017, serving initially as Chair of the Advancement and, subsequently, the Governance and Human Resources committees of the Board. Todd served as Board Chair from 2021 to 2023 and currently holds the position of Past Chair. In his time on the Board, Todd has demonstrated his dedication to the school’s vision, mission, and values and provided leadership and passion in governance, transparency, and accountability. Todd is a firm believer that the core strengths of STS are its sense of community at school and around the globe and its focus on helping each student be the best version of themselves.

Todd believes that each generation of STS community members has a responsibility to those whose past generosity built the school that we see today, to those who work and study there now, and to those who are yet to pass through STS, to leave the school in a better place than we found it. Todd and his family have sought to “pay it forward” through the school’s financial support, including the Christy Worsley memorial writing contests, the Worsley Family scholarship endowed as part of the Inspiring Possibilities capital campaign, and regular participation in annual fundraising campaigns. Todd and his father, Reg, are also members of the Atkinson Society at STS, having provided future legacy gifts to the school.

Professionally, Todd holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Hons) from Queen’s University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst. A “reformed banker,” as Todd says, he has over 30 years of experience in the finance industry in Calgary and Toronto, including mergers and acquisitions, leveraged finance, private equity, and private credit, as well as building diversified investment portfolios. Todd has sat on the Boards of numerous companies and charitable foundations and enjoys working with entrepreneurs and business owners to help them achieve their strategic, financial, and philanthropic goals.

Todd’s outstanding commitment and service to his alma mater and his community are truly commendable, and we take great pride in having him as a member of our alumni family.

We invite you to join us as we celebrate Mr. Todd Worsley ’88 as our 2024 Distinguished Alumnus at the 14th Annual Alumni Dinner on Thursday, May 9, 2024, at Gasoline Alley, Heritage Park in Calgary.
