Grade 1 students connect with people and communities

In Grade 1, students have been exploring how structures connect people and communities, and have been using their research skills to understand how structures are built. Instead of exploring structures around Calgary, they went on a virtual field trip using virtual reality (VR) goggles and 3D Merge Cubes to take a tour of famous structures around the world! They used their VR passports to travel to the Pantheon in Italy, the Helsinki Cathedral in Finland, the Pyramids in Egypt and the Burj Khalifa in United Arab Emirites. Students were highly engaged in exploring these structures as architects and reflecting on the building strategies the architects might have used to create these interesting structures.  They were able to notice that there were many three dimensional shapes connected together to create the structure. Students are eager to use this experience to create their own structure in the coming weeks!
