Whether it’s exploring the outdoors on our beautiful 220-acre campus, creating, imagining and inventing in the Innovation Lab or honing sports skills in the Sports Centre, there is an enriched learning experience for everyone to “say yes” to.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to follow the lead of Alberta Health Services
and the Alberta Government and will implement all necessary protocols to ensure STS summer camp
participants can enjoy their experience on our campus with the reassurance that they are safe. We will

Fables are full of lessons but did you know there is a lot of iSTEAM (Innovation, Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) in them too? Join us in this camp that merges classic fables with modern education. Students will read a fable per day, understand the take home message and develop 1 project based on the fable using iSTEAM. Technology use will include Ozobots, Scratch Jr, MakeyMakey and Lego Educational.

Robots are everywhere! They have different shapes and sizes but they all have one thing in common- they are codable. This camp aims to show students several different types of robots while explaining how robots think and act to help humankind. Campers will code at least 2 different types of robots to beat an engineering challenge, learn the basics or robotics and engage in at least 1 project creating an interaction between robots. Technology use will include Ozobots, Scratch Jr., Lego WeDo and Spheros.

In this unique and creative camp, our little campers will have fun as they incorporate fine arts and technology together. Using iSTEAM (innovation, science, technology, engineering, arts and math), campers will learn the fundamentals of electrical circuits and coding! Are you a robot and car lover? This is the camp for you! Join us to create a huge racing track, create your racing team and even develop your racing car! This camp explains how the racing industry works through storytelling, design thinking and hands-on robotics activities while generating a friendly competition and technology sharing among participants. A typical camp day will be composed of time in class as well as outdoor time, mindfulness sessions, show and tell, and creative playtime.

Indulge your children into this engineering camp where campers will build Kidditown – the city of children. Campers will have to develop blueprints, create roads, buildings and much more. Collaboration is key and campers will be pushed to their limits while building their dream town. To build a city using multiple makers and tech tools. Children will plan and implement what was planned while adding tech pieces to their design. Technology use will include Ozobots, Spheros, Scratch Jr., and Lego Educational.

Learn the basics of coding while creating simple video games, stories, and even art. Scratch block coding allows all of that and more! Campers will develop a minimum of 1 animation and 1 video game. Technology use will include Scratch coding and MakeyMakey.

Sphero BOLTs are complex robots that are codable, having several sensors, able to move in different conditions (i.e. wet surfaces, sand and grass) and have a unique motor that works like a gyroscope. This camp will give children several opportunities to play with BOLTs while exploring many of its functionalities while learning about robotics. Campers will complete 1 engineer challenge per day, learn the basics of BOLT coding and create collaborative projects between campers (involving story telling and role playing). The difficulty and number of challenges will depend on the number of children and their skill set.

From planets to black holes, this camp teaches several astronomy concepts to get children excited about space! Against popular belief, creating a game is very easy and the concept used on simple games is just improved/expanded on more complex games. This camp aims to give children the basic graphs on how to create games, make them appealing and challenging, much needed basic concepts to become a successful game creator. Campers will be able to explain the basics of game creation while allowing the children to create at least 1 game per day. Coding concepts such as loops, conditional statements, variables and user input will be explained. Technology use will include Scratch and MakeyMakey.

MakeyMakey is a circuit board that allows any conductible object to be a computer key and we will explore several objects in this camp! Campers will learn about electricity, circuitry, and even coding on several iSTEAM projects, like creating a video game controller, dancing pad, or even light switches that work in a fun way! Film Camp in a Box delivers the excitement of Hollywood to your campers with a blockbuster week packed with action, adventure, mystery and a lot comedy. Mentored by master filmmakers, campers will engage in hands on exploration of the stop motion animation process, including pre-production, production and post production. Working in small crews, they will learn about stop motion animation, set design, script writing and editing. Campers will then create their own stop motion animation and edit a short film and movie trailer. Each film crew will use a Mac Book, and HD stop motion camera under the guidance of their own film maker. All arts supplies are provided. Family and friends will join us at the Film Camp in a Box Red Carpet Film Festival at the end of the week to enjoy blockbusters and of course some popcorn. Movies will be posted on our Movie Portal.

MiniPreneurs YYC

Hey BizKids! Ready for a fun competition? While working in teams to compete for the best-selling product, kids learn the basics of entrepreneurship and business in the most fun ways! From idea generation, to branding, to innovating vs inventing, to making sense of their financials, to marketing, to customer service and sales, the skills learned and practiced are useful in oh so many aspects of everyday life. Over the course of the camp, kids will work toward the final challenge which will be held on Friday. Campers will be selling their product to other campers and proceeds will benefit a local community charity. Each team will run the stand for one hour each, on the Friday of the camp week. Whichever teams sells the most, wins!

Fuse 33

Fuse33 in partnership with MakeFashion EDU will offer this full-day STEAM camp.  This camp offers a unique learning experience designed to introduce participants to the design learning process in a collaborative and supportive environment. Participants will explore where design and technology intersect as they jump into the world of wearable technology. This activity offers hands-on experience designing and creating a wearable tech garment from start to finish. Students will have the opportunity to create light-up garments, using technology from the designs seen internationally on the MakeFashion runway or movie props as seen in Ghostbusters and Last of Us. The focus of the workshop will be on creativity and storytelling through fashion-tech design. Students will learn the basics of fashion-tech design, how to generate design ideas conveyed through a proposal, and practical experience going from a design to a physical garment.

Roblox is currently one of the most played games by children. Its complexity comes from the highly customizable engine, allowing children to create virtually anything they want! This introductory camp aims to teach the basics of Roblox, from playing the game to 3D designing along with the basics of Roblox coding.

Roblox is an overly complex game with an embedded game creator called Roblox Studio. It allows children to create 3D designs while coding every element of their creation. The game itself might look simple, but there is a lot of learning on the backend of it. This camp is great for children with some Roblox creation skills. We are fast approaching the Virtual Reality (VR) frontier and all the wonders it has. Several industries have immersed themselves in VR technology, using it for designing, meetings and even conferences. This camp aims to give children a taste of VR while getting used to their own body in VR worlds. Campers will learn how to design a gallery on VR using pictures, videos, webpages as well as animated 3D objects. The gallery theme will be based on the child’s interest and the complexity based on how much time and effort they will put in it. Technology use will include the programs - First Steps and Spatial in Oculus Quest 2. Disclaimer: Extensive use of VR can be damaging to children's eyes and VR time will be based on student comfort.

Becoming a YouTuber is no easy job. It requires a lot of creativity, planning and skills like video editing and design. Storytelling is a must as only good stories are heard. This camp brings all these skills to life while allowing children to create their own videos that can be used to start their own YouTube channel. Campers will learn about the different types of videos that can be created, different tools and how to engage with their audience. Concepts of storytelling will be presented while creating the videos. Technology use will include different types of cameras, lighting poles, and video editing software (based on children's needs).

Robots are marvelous inventions! They make our lives easier while doing repetitive tasks, increasing industry production and can even provide comfort and security. However, building and coding a robot is not easy and this is what this camp is focused on. They will build robots for specific purposes at least 3 times throughout the camp while learning the coding aspects of robotics and the importance of a good design. Minecraft Education is a powerful tool to merge educational concepts while playing a fun game. This camp will teach children several aspects of Minecraft world creation, using tools such as design thinking, block coding and resource use. The goal is to use design thinking to plan children's world creation, while integrating block coding with a minimum of 1 project a day. The complexity of projects will vary depending on the children's skills in Minecraft. The Alberta Education curriculum will be integrated where possible.

Arduino is a great entry point for children interested in complex robots, engineering challenges and circuitry mastery! Arduino is a kit with over 100 pieces that can mimic several aspects of working with electronics – from power circuits to mobile boards. Put that together with its coding capability, and you have a plate full of learning for children. Campers will develop at least 2 projects using Arduino (using servos, breadboards, LED bulbs, sensors, and more). The group will also code and/or modify codes to fit it for a purpose as well as learn the basics of electricity and how it behaves on cables and cords.

The design industry is changing tools faster than ever. With the advent of user friend tools, Virtual Reality (VR) is becoming the best tool to design anything, from chairs to cars! This camp aims to navigate students to several aspects of 3D design – from software to VR. Campers will develop 2 computer and 2 VR projects using their own interests while blending several artistic concepts such as primitive shapes, color balance and perspectives. Technology use will include TinkerCad and Gravity Sketch from Oclulus Quest 2 VR headsets. Disclaimer: Extensive use of VR can be damaging to children's eyes and VR time will be based on each child's comfort level.

Let’s face it, we cannot live our lives without our apps anymore. Thus, why not teach our children how to develop apps? This camp aims to navigate children through the process of developing an app, from conceptualization to delivering to customers. Concepts of user interface and user experience will be introduced while preparing campers to think like users. Other campers will act as customers during app showcase. Campers will learn app development while using block coding and may develop several apps depending on their interest. Technology use will include MIT App Development and block coding.

Social Media is a powerful tool for many things from personal marketing to adding value to business, understanding the works of different social networks can give anyone an edge. This camp aims to introduce these concepts to children while allowing them to create their own content in different platforms. Campers may create at least 2 different types of content while explaining about social media terms like SEO, added value, snippets and more. Technology use will include Podcasts, YouTube, Blog, TikTok, Wix and any other social media tool campers are interested in. Tools used will vary on campers interest, but cameras, laptops and image/video editing tools will be available.

Python is the most used coding language nowadays and for good reason – it is color coded, easy to master and very intuitive. This camp will navigate students through several aspects of Python coding, allowing them to merge projects with Pygame while creating their own games. Syntaxes like loops, if then else, while loops and more will be taught. No previous experience with Python is required for this camp. Campers will develop at least 2 games using different libraries and syntaxes from Python. Complexity of the games and projects will vary based on children’s coding skills. Technology use will include Python and Pygame.

The Math10C Essentials Camp is a great preparation program to help students review key math concepts prior to the start of the school year. The half day program will address core numeracy skills and identify strategies for that specific upcoming math course. After the past couple of months and a summer break many students may be feeling that they are not prepared or they are nervous about going into the next math course. The plan is to provide direct and interactive instruction in those two hours to keep interest and build on their review each day. Students will review previously seen key mathematical skills that are the foundation for Math 10C. They will look at operations on powers, rational equations, algebraic expressions, polynomials and graphing. The goal is to provide a week of informed learning in an enjoyable and relaxed atmosphere where students will leave feeling confident and prepared as they make the transition into Math 10C.

The University of Calgary and Ten Peaks have partnered to offer the Introduction to Entrepreneurial Thinking in Action Camp. This camp offers a unique hands-on learning experience for students entering grades nine through twelve. Over the course of the five-day camp, participants will learn what it takes to create a successful start-up. Students will start with a problem and, in groups, will come up with a business venture solution to meet the needs of that problem. Students will use their ideas and other award-winning ventures to develop an understanding and foster a passion for entrepreneurial thinking content and skills. Participants will work with experienced mentors, entrepreneurial students, and local entrepreneurs to guide them through the process of identifying and evaluating viable business solutions to a variety of problems.

Calgary Polo Club2


STS has partnered with the Calgary Polo Club to offer a summer Polo Camp with the objective of provding students with additional enrichment experiences in polo in a fun learning environment. In this half-day camp (9:00 am to 12:00 noon), participants learn how to ride a polo pony, hit the ball, and play in a real live polo match. Students are mounted on safe, experienced polo ponies for approximately 1 hour per day for riding instruction, polo drills, and practice games. Riding experience of 1-year will be required to participate in this program. Other activities include hitting cage practice (on a wooden horse), mechanical horse practice, rules and game strategy ‘chalk talk’, and foot mallet polo. There is a wind-up tournament game on the final day of camp (prizes provided), which parents are invited to attend.

Two Wheel View

Two Wheel View, in conjunction with Strathcona Tweedsmuir School (STS) Summer Camps, will be running a 5 day trail-side bike technician course for youth ages 11-14. This is a half-day (9:00 am to 12:15 pm) five-day trail-side bike technician course that will take place on the STS campus where students will ride mountain bikes on the local campus trails, develop basic trail-riding etiquette, learn how to maintain their bikes, and troubleshoot mechanical issues on the trail. Whether you enjoy urban riding or exploring wilder trails this is a great opportunity to improve your riding knowledge and experience the empowering feeling of taking your mechanical aptitude to the next level. Participants will be provided with a trailside toolkit for the duration of the program, in-program snacks, and can inquire about bike rentals if necessary.

The Remote Responder Program is a 24-hour Wilderness First Aid consisting of a blend of classroom instruction and practical skills in a wilderness setting. This course is intended for the first aider who has delayed access to emergency resources in order to prepare them to manage emergencies in remote wilderness locations. This course is a great introduction to wilderness first aid and is suitable for those who work in a `non-standard` environment or for those who recreate in the backcountry. It is not suitable for those who will find themselves in a leadership or guiding capacity or for those who will be venturing into truly remote regions for an extended period of time with no additional help available to them.
