Discovering, learning, prototyping, designing, testing—repeat! All these elements make up design thinking, a process that helps engineers develop innovative solutions to challenges in our changing world. Blast off on an exciting learning adventure to Mars! This space-themed offering engages students in collaborative engineering challenges. Participants are introduced to digital design basics using 3D design. In this unique and creative camp, our little campers will have fun as they incorporate fine arts and technology together. Using iSTEAM, campers will learn the fundamentals of electrical circuits and coding! This camp is great for those who love to be creative and tinker with technology. Are you a robot and car lover? This is the camp for you! Join us to create a huge racing track, create your racing team and even develop your racing car! Digital storytelling is an imaginative and engaging way for kids to share ideas and experiences. Students first create characters, themes, and digital backgrounds using various tools. Participants will then utilize a visual programming language to create their own interactive stories and animation through code. Coding fundamentals will be further reinforced with robotics programming as students bring their cyber movies to the "big screen". A typical camp day will be composed of time in class as well as outdoor time, mindfulness sessions, show and tell, and creative playtime.

Are you interested in learning the fundamentals of coding? This course is designed to introduce beginner programmers to coding concepts through engaging challenges and basic game development. Participants will use Scratch 3.0, Micro:bit, and EduBlocks, which serve as excellent resources for transitioning students to text-based languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript). In this hands-on robotics camp, students will use Lego Mindstorms to build innovative designs in a series of engineering challenges. Arduino is an electronic board world-wide used to teach kids and adults on basics of robotics, enabling from simple to very complex projects. The board can be integrated with the Arduino software, enabling coding of electronic components, giving life to robots created with maker material or even prototypes of smart objects. This camp will explore the basics of Arduino’s functions, allowing students to understand what Arduino is capable of while building a simple robot, like a walking quad-pod (4-legged robot) and automated/smart objects. A typical camp day will be composed of time in class as well as outdoor time, mindfulness sessions, show and tell, and creative playtime.

Road to Research (R2R) is the first program of its kind in Alberta education’s curriculum, providing high-school students a platform to broaden their academic knowledge and get ahead of the curve. Road to Research will help students gain an in-depth understanding behind research, theory of knowledge, general sciences, and technology. Creating and executing their own research studies, students will gain first-hand experience with general sciences and introduced to the vast career opportunities within and outside of research.

Students will brainstorm, craft, and polish 5-10 minute videos. They will tackle topics and technology that appeal to them and learn to troubleshoot issues as they arise while the instructor will act as a catalyst of ideas and facilitator for the technology. This camp will be done through the use of hands-on skill-building activities, modeling problem-solving, and encouraging students to express themselves. Students will leave the course with the tools needed to create high-quality engaging videos using a wide range of technology, from phones, tablets, GoPro, and even camera-mounted Drones. A typical camp day will be composed of time in class as well as outdoor time, mindfulness sessions, show and tell, and creative playtime.

Participants will learn computer programming fundamentals with Python. One of today's most popular and versatile programming languages, Python has powerful capabilities while also being approachable for new programmers. Students will examine decision-making structures with conditional statements, implement repetition with "for" and "while" loops, build functions that carry out sub-tasks, use variables to store program information, and create basic graphical user interfaces (GUIs) with the Tkinter library. This offering is designed for individuals with little to no coding experience who wish to get a taste of computer programming! A typical camp day will be composed of time in class as well as outdoor time, mindfulness sessions, show and tell, and creative playtime.

What do self-driving cars, Alexa, and iPhone’s face recognition technology have in common? They are driven by modern advances in Artificial Intelligence. Students may register for this two-week online camp led by Stanford alumni at Inspirit AI and the deadline to register is March 1, 2021. The online sessions will have a 4:1 student-teacher ratio, will use a design-thinking approach that includes project-based collaboration for students to work in close-knit teams. This online AI camp has three outcomes. First, AI for Social Good Project - Students develop fundamental AI skills and apply them to a mentor-led group project that they later present during a final showcase. Students gain access to an online portal for continuous learning after the program, including additional projects in a variety of domains. Second, AI Careers and Ventures - Students learn from industry and academic guest speakers about AI’s impact in domains such as healthcare, transportation, and chat applications. Students receive guidance on pursuing various careers that involve AI. Third, Pre-College Preparation - Students attend workshops aimed to prepare them for leading CS and AI programs in the US. Students gain inspiration from successful Stanford admission essays and learning how to communicate their project experiences effectively.

This camp offers a unique learning experience designed to introduce participants to the design thinking process in a collaborative and supportive environment. Participants will explore where design and technology intersect as they jump into the world of wearable technology in a project-based learning environment. They will discover how to combine hands-on design and crafting techniques with microcontroller-based programming to create personalized, unique, and interactive designs using their new skills.

Level-Up your Roblox Skills by becoming a Roblox Creator. The students will use Roblox studio to create their very own Roblox Game. This entry-level camp requires no previous coding experience, only a familiarity with Roblox and a desire to learn! Want to create your own game within Minecraft? Take your skills to the next level and build your own customized Minecraft world with block code or JavaScript! In this Augmented Reality (AR) camp, students will learn how to use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Aero to create AR content for the iPad that interacts with the real world. Whether for art, school (or work) projects and presentations, or games, this camp will give you a foundation with this technology. Over the course of the week, students will be led through a few smaller projects that incorporate different kinds of assets into an augmented reality experience. In the end, there will be a short talk explaining a few ways that students can move forward if they want to pursue augmented reality further.

Participants will create their own site with the free drag-and-drop website builder. No prior experience required! The course will guide attendees through the whole process of building a website, while also covering graphics, social media integration, and an introduction to e-commerce. Participants will build a website using Wix, a drag-and-drop website builder, learn web design standards and create prototype designs for their websites, understand key aspects of user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) design and learn about domains, hosting, and bandwidth. A typical camp day will be composed of time in class as well as outdoor time, mindfulness sessions, show and tell, and creative playtime.

Calling all Minecraft enthusiasts! Do you love video games and playing with friends? During this summer camp, you will build your own world and overcome obstacles with limited resources, design and customize your very own character and build redstone circuits to learn about electricity. The Math Refresher Camp, open to any students ages 14-17 in Calgary and the surrounding area, is a great preparation program to help students review key math concepts prior to the start of the school year in Math 10-C, Math 20-1, and Math 30-1. The Refresher will address core numeracy skills and identify strategies for that specific upcoming math course. This program will be full of knowledgeable information in a relaxed setting where no assessments or stress is being placed on if they know the concepts or not. After the past couple of months and a summer break, many students may be feeling that they are not prepared or they are nervous about going into the next math course. The plan is to provide direct and interactive instruction in those two hours to keep interested and build on their review each day.

Two Wheel View

Two Wheel View will be running a five-day, trail-side bike technician course for youth ages 14-17. This program will take place at the STS campus where students will ride mountain bikes on the local campus trails, develop basic trail-riding etiquette, learn how to maintain their bikes, and troubleshoot mechanical issues on the trail. Whether you enjoy urban riding or exploring wilder trails this is a great opportunity to improve your riding knowledge and experience the empowering feeling of taking your mechanical aptitude to the next level. Participants will be provided with a trailside toolkit for the duration of the program, in-program snacks, and can inquire about bike rentals if necessary.

Calgary Polo Club2


In Junior Polo Camp, students learn how to ride a polo pony, hit the ball, and play in a real live polo match. Students are mounted on safe, experienced polo ponies for approximately 1 hour per day for riding instruction, polo drills, and practice games . Some riding experience is beneficial, but not required. Other activities include hitting cage practice (on a wooden horse), mechanical horse practice, rules and game strategy ‘chalk talk’, and foot mallet polo. There is a wind-up tournament game on the final day of camp (prizes provided), which parents are invited to attend.

The STS Outdoor Education Day Camp, open to all students aged 8-12, allows them to explore STS’s 220-acre campus by enjoying hiking on the trails, canoeing on the pond, navigating orienteering courses, and trying out the indoor climbing wall. The final day will have students participating in Amazing Race style OE course.

Experience one of Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School’s flagship programs − outdoor education. During this full-day camp, participants will explore the 220-acre STS campus − enjoying hiking on the trails, canoeing on the pond, navigating orienteering courses, and trying out the 25-foot indoor climbing wall. This is a great way to introduce your children to a number of outdoor recreation activities including canoeing, indoor rock climbing, navigating with a map and compass, and day hiking. Woven throughout all of these activities in this 4-day program will be safety management strategies and practices. Aside from learning new skills and being active, this camp will introduce campers to peers who share an interest in exploring new opportunities outdoors. Activities will be instructed and supervised by professionals from the STS outdoor education program.

Rising Stars Volleyball half-day Summer Camp is an advanced skills program for players serious about playing volleyball at a competitive level on school teams and potentially club teams. This camp features 15 hours of daily skills development training, speed, and agility, and strength and conditioning training split by age groups on separate courts. Our Rising Stars Summer Camps are designed to support the development of players so they are prepared physically and mentally for school tryouts in early September. Our coaches are former high school and club players and several are currently playing college or university volleyball. The registration fee includes on-court training, a Rising Stars long-sleeved t-shirt, cinch bag, and water bottle.

This camp is ideal for players who have limited or no experience in either sport or who just want a chance to try both sports. The camp features three hours of volleyball fundamental skills development in the morning and three hours of basketball fundamental skills development in the afternoon split by age groups on separate courts, ages 6 – 9 on court one and ages 10 – 12 on court two.

In addition to the skills development, players will have a chance to scrimmage each day and participate in fun activities to improve their coordination, agility, and balance. The registration fee includes 30 hours on court, a SUNS all-season basketball, a SUNS Basketball reversible jersey, STARS Volleyball tee-shirt, cinch bag, and water bottle. Note: For parents who only want to register for a half-day and one sport, you may choose volleyball in the mornings or basketball in the afternoons separately.
