Our little campers will have fun as they explore the life cycle of a butterfly, get down and dirty creating a working garden, and their own “Animal Museums”. Campers will build creative robotic bugs and design the habitat they would live in. At the end of the week we will showcase our hard work at our walk through the bug museum. Digital storytelling is an imaginative and engaging way for kids to share ideas and experiences. Students first create characters, themes, and digital backgrounds using various tools. Participants will then use a visual programming language to create their own interactive stories and animation through code. In this Augmented Reality (AR) camp, students will learn how to use Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Aero on the iPad to create content that interacts with the real world. Whether for art, school (or work) projects and presentations, or games, this camp will give you a foundation with this technology. Over the course of the week, students will be led through a few smaller projects that incorporate different kinds of assets into an augmented reality experience. In the end, there will be a short talk explaining a few ways that students can move forward if they want to pursue augmented reality further.

Students will use Design Thinking methodologies to understand client needs and develop an engaging website to advertise their own innovation. The Spirit of Math Grade 5 program is a foundational year when students consolidate their numeracy skills and their understanding of numbers. This one-week camp is an overview of the Grade 5 program. It is designed for students who have finished the Spirit of Math Grade 5 course (who would like to consolidate their understanding), and for new students who need a math refresher before entering Grades 6, 7 or 8. Topics covered include: relocation property, signed numbers, order of operations, factors, multiples and primes, and number sets.

Experience one of Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School’s flagship programs − outdoor education. Campers will explore the 220-acre STS campus − enjoying hiking on the trails, canoeing on the pond, navigating orienteering courses, and trying out the 25-foot indoor climbing wall. This is a great way to introduce your children to a number of outdoor recreation activities including canoeing, indoor rock climbing, orienteering, cooking and meal preparation, and day hiking. Woven throughout all of these activities will be safety management strategies and practices. Aside from learning new skills and being active, this camp will introduce campers to peers who share an interest in exploring new opportunities outdoors. Activities will be instructed and supervised by professionals from the STS outdoor education program.

Two Wheel View will be offering a five-day bicycle mechanics and trail-riding skills course in partnership with Strathcona Tweedsmuir School’s (STS) summer programming. Participants will receive three days of basic bike mechanics skills, including how to change a flat tire, adjust brakes, and diagnose shifting issues. These highly applicable maintenance skills will be paired with an introduction to self-supported bicycle touring and the basics of trail-riding. Rides will be held on STS local trail system with a day trip to Bragg Creek. Participants will have the opportunity at the end of the week to showcase their new set of skills in an interactive, basic tune-up service offered to friends, family and other camp participants. All tools and stands will be provided with the option to rent a bike through our program partner Ridley’s Cycle. We encourage participants to bring their own bike if they have a mountain bike capable of riding dirt/gravel single-track.

Join us for a fun, intellectually-engaging and confidence-building week! Debate Camp provides youth, ages 10 to 16, with a safe place to develop their public speaking and parliamentary debate skills. Debate Camp is open to all ability-levels and programs are challenge-leveled, with instruction available for novice to competitive speakers. Speaking in partnership with two- and four-person teams, campers work in small groups to develop their ideas and represent their side of the debate resolution. We help develop their ideas with a view to logic, evidence, impact, and overall persuasiveness. Young speakers at all levels are generally amazed at their growth and development over one week. All instruction and supervision ratios are set at 1:8. Our daily schedule also includes organized games, impromptu speaking, drama, and interactive activities to ensure camp maintains a fun and balanced approach to learning.

Create a stop motion animation film that is sure to rival the likes of Hollywood’s best. Working in small crews, you will use Lego characters, and/or clay to build characters and backgrounds, and then bring them to life through the film craft of stop motion animation. This coed camp is timed to coincide with school volleyball team tryouts which begin the first week of school. Campers will be split by age groups. In addition to the skills development necessary to play school volleyball, RISING STARS Camps feature tryout tips and simulated tryout experiences, strength and conditioning/speed and agility training specific to volleyball, and provide an individual players’ skills evaluation at the end of camp. Stryker Sports' coaching staff has extensive experience as players and coaches through early development, school, and club and in some cases college and university. They also specialize in development leagues having coached in U13 & U16 levels of competition.

For STS Students only. Campers will enjoy a week packed with technical learning and exceptional teaching to help you in your quest to become a better volleyball player. This half-day camp is perfect for hard working players who want to improve their skills, take advantage of high-level techniques, and are ready to have lots of fun!  Each volleyball camp will target advanced skills in areas such as attacking, blocking, defense (read and react), passing and serving (jump serving), as well as tactical information appropriate for the age level.

About the coaches 

Al Taylor has played for the Canadian National Men's Team and was team captain of the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. After staying with the National team for five years, Taylor also competed in several Pan Am Games, three World Championships, give NORCECA championships, and many other world tournaments. Taylor is currently the assistant coach for the University of Calgary Dinos Women's Volleyball team. 

Diane Johnson has 19 years of coaching volleyball at various age groups in Alberta. The bulk of her coaching in Calgary has taken place with 403 Selects Volleyball Club where she has been involved as Coach, Board Member, President and Co-President. She has also worked for the last 10 years with HIIT Volleyball as a coach, yoga instructor, and nutritional consultant.
