STS Summer Camps are being offered in partnership with STEM Learning Lab, Debate Camp Canada, Okotoks Rockies Basketball,
Two Wheel View, Director’s Cut, Stryker Sports, and Spirit of Math.

Please note: Bussing to and from the STS campus is not available for summer camps. 

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, we will continue to follow the lead of Alberta Health Services and the Alberta Government and will implement all necessary protocols to ensure STS summer camp participants can enjoy their experience on our campus with the reassurance that they are safe. Does your child love magic? Campers will learn the science behind some of our favorite magic tricks. In this camp, we will learn new magic tricks, and get the opportunity to experiment and create magical tricks and experiments of our own. This camp is perfect for creative and inquisitive campers. Parents are invited at the end of the week to our magic showcase.

Discovering, learning, prototyping, designing, testing—repeat! All these elements make up design thinking, a process that helps engineers develop innovative solutions to challenges in our changing world. This hands-on camp will immerse your child in the wonderful world of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. Campers will conduct science experiments, make observations, invent, and build with their hands!

Campers will receive an introduction to the inspiring possibilities of engineering. This camp presents tykes with design problems for them to creatively solve. Campers will use a hands-on approach to problem solving, while working in teams. This camp is perfect for little builders. At the end of the week parents are invited to our engineering showcase. Lego WeDo robots can really do it all! In this week-long program, your child will build and code various robotic creations to mitigate environmental disasters. Not only will your child strengthen their cognitive development through hands-on engineering and coding activities, but they will also learn about technologies shaping our future. In this hands-on robotics camp, students will use Lego Mindstorms to build innovative designs in a series of engineering challenges. Mindstorms is a blocks-based programming platform that provides students with opportunities to code unique movements and use robotic sensors.

This interactive camp places a special emphasis on mathematics and its connection to science, technology, engineering, and art. Campers will explore engaging topics ranging from 3D modelling and video game design, to dinosaur science and mini-golf course development. Want to create your own game within Minecraft? Take your skills to the next level and build your own customized Minecraft world with block code or JavaScript! Create ‘mods’ that control how your Minecraft game behaves, and battle zombies and creepers by crafting code with the Minecraft Education Edition! Prior Minecraft experience is recommended. Wearable technologies are advancing rapidly and are used for health monitoring, entertainment, and sports. In this technology-immersive offering, we will spark students’ imaginations and foster creativity as they design and iterate their own wearable technologies. The course will introduce coding fundamentals, electrical circuits, and 3-D modelling/printing. Before and after care available, one hour before and one hour after, for $10 per day.

Experience one of Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School’s flagship programs − outdoor education. Campers will explore the 220-acre STS campus − enjoying hiking on the trails, canoeing on the pond, navigating orienteering courses, and trying out the 25-foot indoor climbing wall. This is a great way to introduce your children to a number of outdoor recreation activities including canoeing, indoor rock climbing, orienteering, cooking and meal preparation, and day hiking. Woven throughout all of these activities will be safety management strategies and practices. Aside from learning new skills and being active, this camp will introduce campers to peers who share an interest in exploring new opportunities outdoors. Activities will be instructed and supervised by professionals from the STS outdoor education program.

Two Wheel View logo

Two Wheel View will be offering a 4 day bicycle mechanics and trail-riding skills course in partnership with Strathcona Tweedsmuir School’s (STS) summer programming.  Participants will receive 4 days of basic bike mechanics skills, including how to change a flat tire, adjust brakes, and diagnose shifting issues.  These highly applicable maintenance skills will be paired with an introduction to self-supported bicycle touring and the basics of trail-riding.  All rides will be held on STS’s local trail system.  All tools and stands will be provided with the option to rent a bike through our program partner Ridley’s Cycle.  We encourage participants to bring their own bike if they have a mountain bike capable of riding dirt/gravel singletrack.

This coed camp is timed to coincide with school volleyball team tryouts which begin the first week of school. Campers will be split by age groups. In addition to the skills development necessary to play school volleyball, RISING STARS Camps feature tryout tips and simulated tryout experiences, strength and conditioning/speed and agility training specific to volleyball, and provide an individual players’ skills evaluation at the end of camp. Stryker Sports' coaching staff has extensive experience as players and coaches through early development, school, and club and in some cases college and university. They also specialize in development leagues having coached in U13 & U16 levels of competition.

For STS Students only. Campers will enjoy a week packed with technical learning and exceptional teaching to help you in your quest to become a better volleyball player. This half-day camp is perfect for hard working players who want to improve their skills, take advantage of high-level techniques, and are ready to have lots of fun!  Each volleyball camp will target advanced skills in areas such as attacking, blocking, defense (read and react), passing and serving (jump serving), as well as tactical information appropriate for the age level.

About the coaches 

Al Taylor has played for the Canadian National Men's Team and was team captain of the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. After staying with the National team for five years, Taylor also competed in several Pan Am Games, three World Championships, give NORCECA championships, and many other world tournaments. Taylor is currently the assistant coach for the University of Calgary Dinos Women's Volleyball team. 

Diane Johnson has 19 years of coaching volleyball at various age groups in Alberta. The bulk of her coaching in Calgary has taken place with 403 Selects Volleyball Club where she has been involved as Coach, Board Member, President and Co-President. She has also worked for the last 10 years with HIIT Volleyball as a coach, yoga instructor, and nutritional consultant.
