At Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School (STS), tuition is designed to be clear and comprehensive. It reflects a seamless educational experience, one where the resources, environments, and opportunities your child needs are already in place.
Rather than layering on additional fees throughout the year, we integrate the core elements of the student experience into one cohesive structure.
STS tuition is designed to cover the full school-year experience: academics, programming, and the equipment and resources that support them.
To allow families flexibility in certain areas, the following are not included in the base tuition:
The majority of tuition is reinvested directly into people. This ensures small class sizes, access to specialist teachers, and robust student support. It also covers the complex operational costs of our 200-acre campus and the delivery of our programs in academics, arts, athletics, design, and outdoor education.
Like most independent schools in Alberta, STS receives partial government funding, enough to support a portion of instruction, but not the full scope of what we offer. Tuition bridges that gap.
Yes. Fee structures reflect the requirements of different programs, including:
Families can choose from a range of payment options, including a single payment, two installments, or monthly payment plans.
Monthly plans may include a small administrative fee, and credit card payments may be subject to processing fees.
Deposits are generally non-refundable, as staffing and program planning are based on confirmed enrollment.
We understand that circumstances can shift. Withdrawal timelines and financial implications vary, so early communication is important.
No. Kindergarten to 12 tuition is not eligible for the federal T2202 education tax credit and is not considered a charitable donation.
Accredited independent schools in Alberta receive partial provincial funding for instructional costs. This funding is a portion of the per-student rate provided to public schools and applies only to students who are residents of Alberta with a parent residing in the province.
Provincial funding does not cover the full cost of delivering an independent school program. It also does not fully fund facilities or campus development. As a result, tuition and community philanthropy bridge that gap and remain essential to what we offer our students.
While tuition covers the core operational costs of an STS education, such as our faculty and daily programming, philanthropy enables our school to soar beyond the basics. Most of the iconic spaces and specialized opportunities our students enjoy today exist because of the generosity of our community, past and present.
As an independent school, STS receives significantly less government funding than public systems and, in most cases, those funds cannot be used for capital projects or campus expansion. Philanthropic support allows us to:
Every gift, regardless of size, ensures that the STS experience remains as dynamic for future generations as it is for our students today.
