Annual Giving

Everything STS students benefit from today is due to the generosity of past generations of donors. Your gift – of any size – makes our STS even better.

The STS community is steeped in a culture of participation. At school, students have an astounding number of choices outside of their core subjects that help them discover themselves, and the world. With over 90 co-curriculars available, all led by the teachers they know and trust, students thrive with the enhanced education that your contribution provides.

Did you know that tuition fees and some government grants cover all operating expenses, and fundraising dollars provide any program or campus enhancements? To give every student in each generation the true STS experience, we rely on donors like you.

Strengthening our community

Every family’s participation in Annual Giving is one of the ways that our community grows strong bonds. The size of the gift is less important than the sense of pride and ownership we all feel in STS, and the shared commitment to our mission. Our gifts today ensure the continued success of STS.

"STS has been the 'village' that has helped to raise each of my three children. We are forever grateful for the academic and co-curricular opportunities each of our children have been afforded and are particularly appreciative of the teaching excellence and personal support each child has received." - Jan Waterous, Inspiring Possibilities Campaign Co-Chair and Board of Governors former member

Your family's 2018-2019 donation can be directed toward any of the current priorities, as identified by our Head of School:

Outdoor Education Learning Campsite

Students learn critical skills on campus before they head off on their wilderness adventures. We've designed a campsite where teachers can provide preparatory training, complete with areas to pitch a tent and to properly store food away from bears.

Outdoor Learning Stations

STS students get outside every day. Our expansive 220-acre campus serves as an outdoor school for students whether they're studying a subject with teachers, or at a play. We're placing signs along the trails to highlight valuable information on a variety of subjects, including biology, athletics and history.

Athletic Bleachers and Outdoor Scoreboard

Our community of support and participation extends to every area of student life. Our athletes inspire boisterous community spirit when we attend their games to cheer them on. New bleachers and better scoring communication will improve the STS fan experience.

Artist-in-Residence

An essential part of a well-rounded STS education is the arts. Our faculty specialists are gifted teachers who choose guest artists to elevate certain areas of the students' artistic exploration. Your child will experience, first-hand, coaching and encouragement from established art experts.

Scholarships and Bursaries

There are many deserving students whose families' financial circumstance won't allow them to attend STS. Bursaries cover tuition for students who bring great value to our community, but can't cover the costs. And the merit-based scholarships are welcomed by recipients as an acknowledgment of a special achievement. Sometimes it means an opportunity to further their exploration of an interest outside of school, such as specialized summer camp.

"Throughout my 76-year connection with Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School I have been privileged to know and encourage many students as they progressed through STS. I have admired their achievements. Our society is richer for their contribution in their chosen professions, as community volunteers, and in the arts and sports worlds. Donating to needs-based scholarships is something I feel very passionate about, and I hope others will continue to join me in opening the door for worthy students." - John Francis '47

Teaching Excellence

Every student that passes through STS speaks about a strong connection to their teachers. The personalized learning at STS takes teachers who are great mentors, lifelong learners themselves, and constant innovators.

One of the ways we can attract, develop and retain dedicated, outstanding faculty members is by offering extraordinary professional development. They are subject matter experts in certain areas, and they lead co-curriculars and Outdoor Education, exemplifying leadership and character. Supporting our teachers is supporting your child's learning experience. And, the experience of generations to come.

"I was thrilled to have the opportunity to renew my enthusiasm for playful, inquiry-based pedagogy and the artistic inspirations provided by the faculty and students at Opal School in Portland, Oregon." - Cheryl Babin, PYP Coordinator

Head's Initiative

You can also choose to direct your gift to the Head's initiative which will offer the most flexibility to the School. Gifts to the Head's initiative allow the administration and our Head of School to deploy resources where they are needed most.
