Fine Arts

"STS taught me how to dream big and overcome obstacles in order to achieve the best." - Dave Pierce '90, Emmy award-winning songwriter, composer, producer

The arts have an important place at STS. They offer unique ways to explore and process ideas, and amplify inquiry-based learning. Balancing the importance of process with performance can be enlightening, and has positive effects in many parts of a student’s life.

The arts are an avenue to connect passion with commitment. And, they encourage multi-disciplinary thought and execution. For example, in a popular Grade 6 project students design, build, paint and, finally, ride their individualized skateboards.

The fine arts are taught in regular classes and diverse co-curricular activities. Students can "dabble" to discover abilities and skills outside of the curriculum. They can also become accomplished young artists through classes and co-curricular activities in music, drama, choir and art. All students learn under the mentorship of the STS resident specialists.

THE ARTS CELEBRATE MULTIPLE PERSPECTIVES. ONE OF THEIR LARGE LESSONS IS THAT THERE ARE MANY WAYS TO SEE AND INTERPRET THE WORLD. - ELLIOT W. EISNER

The new arts facility opened in 2018 with spectacular, purpose-built art and design studios, a music room and individual practice rooms. A multi-use indoor amphitheatre complements the new drama room, along with our previously-existing, fully equipped 630-seat theatre.
