A Flexible Way of
Learning

The school of YES, AND…

You say:

Flexible Creative Innovative

We say: YES, AND…

Get ready to create the school experience you want with STAND – the ultimate program that lets you learn on your own terms. Whether you prefer to study at home or on the go, you’ll join a community of like-minded students saying YES to their futures. With two flexible pathways, you can choose how you learn best – fully online or blending online with Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School campus life.

A New Way to do High School

Flexibility Matters

Some students finish a course in just one quarter, others take a semester, or a year-long path for very busy schedules. A few may even work at an accelerated pace, grade levels ahead. With STAND Online, you can study anywhere in the world, any time of day. With STS Flex, you balance flexible online academic offerings with the community, campus life, and co-curriculars STS is famous for.

Your future starts today

Around the world, 63% of companies now offer hybrid or remote work models. That means tomorrow’s leaders need skills like adaptability, independence, innovation, and self-management. At STAND and STS Flex, you’ll practice these every day – learning online, choosing when to attend live tutorials, and regularly engaging with teachers in a variety of ways. Graduate prepared for the best universities and the careers of tomorrow.

Yes, and…

Whether it’s elite athletics, performing arts, world travel, entrepreneurship, or early career opportunities, we say YES… and provide a world-class education alongside it. With STAND Online, you never have to choose between your passions and your schooling. With STS Flex, you get the best of both worlds – flexible learning plus a vibrant campus experience.

Where STAND Takes You

STAND is designed with your future in mind. Every credit, every skill, and every experience you build here is preparing you for the world beyond high school.

STAND follows the Alberta curriculum, which means every credit you earn is fully accredited and recognized by universities and post-secondary institutions across Canada and internationally. You will graduate with the same Alberta high school diploma as any other accredited program, making you eligible to apply to any university or college that accepts Alberta graduates. STAND also offers dual-credit opportunities, so you can begin earning post-secondary credits before you even finish high school.

  • STAND graduates go on to universities, colleges, trades programs, conservatories, and professional careers – often with a head start most students don’t have. Because STAND is built for students with goals beyond a traditional timetable, many graduates enter post-secondary already carrying real-world experience in athletics, business, the arts, or their chosen field. They don’t just arrive ready for what’s next. They arrive ahead of it.

Beyond your diploma, STAND builds the skills that universities and employers consistently say matter most — self-management, adaptability, independent thinking, and the ability to perform without constant structure. These aren’t extras. They are baked into how STAND works every day. By the time you graduate, managing your own time, advocating for yourself, and staying motivated will feel like second nature.

It's High School, But Different

The STS Flex pathway offers unique full-day STAND courses such as Design Tech and Innovation with Changemaker projects and Wellness Wednesday outdoor experiences on campus, blending flexibility with vibrant community life. Both Flex and Online students can also access dual-credit programs, earning high school and university credits at the same time, through partnerships with Alberta post-secondary. In addition, students may pursue the Green Certificate program, a provincially recognized credential in agriculture. At STS, this includes equine technologies for students already working with a barn, training program, or their own horses, while giving credit and recognition for the advanced skills they are building outside of school. Together, these opportunities connect rigorous academics to real-world experiences and future pathways.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did STS create STAND?

Because we’re trailblazers at heart. Education is changing – and so is the world we live and work in – and we want to be at the forefront by creating a studio school that’s ready for the modern economy (and whatever comes next).

Over the past couple of years, it was so clear that every student learns differently – many students struggled with remote learning, but others thrived. We wanted to create a pathway for you to continue learning in the way you do best – without sacrificing the importance of in-person collaboration or a strong academic program.

Our flexible schedule, personalized learning streams, and two unique pathways:

STAND ONLINE

  • Learn anytime, anywhere – perfect for athletes, performers, world travellers, and independent learners.
  • Module-based courses at your own pace with support from STS faculty through tutorials, check-ins, and chat.
  • Access partnership programs including dual credit, industry credentials, and immersive opportunities.
  • Simplified STAND uniform required for exams or campus visits.

STS FLEX

  • Blend online learning with the vibrancy of STS campus life.
  • Ideal for advanced learners seeking creativity, collaboration, and community.
  • Flexible schedules with both online and in-person classes.
  • Full access to STS extracurriculars plus Design Studio and Changemaker programs.
  • STS uniform required for all on-campus activities.

Our schedule and model at STAND allow you to have the time and flexibility you need to pursue your interests outside of school. STS FLEX students have full access to STS co-curricular and extracurricular programming, while STAND ONLINE students may participate in select opportunities. Please note that not all activities will be available to STAND ONLINE students. Talk to our admissions team for more information.

STAND students are naturally collaborative and great communicators. You’re able to work independently with less structure than a traditional school program. You know that you learn better at home, or when you can choose where and how you work. You’re self-motivated, you’re comfortable asking for help, you want to challenge yourself academically, and you want the flexibility to balance your passions with a world-class education.

Our parent school (STS) encourages students to say YES to their futures. STAND takes that one step further. We drew inspiration from the world of improv and the idea that meeting every challenge and obstacle with the attitude of YES, AND – building on what you have to work with, and exploring where each scene will take you – will take you farther than you can imagine. We want to be known not just as The School of Yes, but The School of Yes,  And.
