Spartan Talk Sessions Inspire
By: Brenda Thompson, Director of Community Engagement
Last week our Grade 11 and 12 students had the pleasure of hearing from 17 alumni at our annual “Spartan Talk” sessions. Held in a virtual format, students had the opportunity to attend one of four alumni panels; Allied Health, STEM, Fine Arts and Humanities, and Law, Finance and Business. Alumni shared with students their journey from STS into their current roles as paramedics, senior project managers, data scientists, chief financial officers, doctors, engineers, entrepreneurs, journalists, actors, artists, and many more. Students were able to ask questions of our panelists, and many relevant topics were covered like post secondary selection, program pathways, getting involved, discovering your passions, internships, and the ability to pivot.
In addition to this event, our strong and vibrant alumni community connect virtually with students and fellow alumni throughout the year, forging one-on-one mentor/mentee relationships, and volunteering to do mock CALM (Career and Life Management) interviews to provide experience and insight on interview strategies and communication skills.
