We’re eager to get to know as much as possible about you during the application process. Hopefully, we’ve already met, and you know everything you need to know about Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School at this point. If you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to reach out to us. And, if we haven’t yet met, let’s do that.
Please apply as early as possible, while there is still availability. For application deadlines and decision dates, please see our important dates page.
The application process can be daunting. We’re here to help you throughout the process. If you have questions or difficulties, please email email@example.com or call the Enrollment Office at 403-938-8326.
What ages of students can apply?
Any student from Kindergarten to Grade 12 is welcome to apply.
What you'll need to apply
All applications are completed online. Once you submit your application, you’ll need to complete the following steps:
For Grades 6 to 12, after you submit your online application, the next step is to arrange an in-person interview. If you have not yet scheduled one, please email an interview request as soon as possible. For those unable to attend an interview in person, we can arrange a Skype video call along with further references or assessments.
2. Confidential Student Report Form
This is a reference from a current teacher, guidance counselor, Principal or someone who knows your child well. A person from a school setting should fill out the form; however, it could be from a coach, music instructor or daycare. Please ask your reference to send the report directly to us by email, mail or fax.
3. Most Recent Report Card
Have an electronic version of the most recent report card or progress report on hand. Make sure that it contains grades and comments. You can upload it directly during the online application process, or email it to firstname.lastname@example.org. If you don’t have the most recent report by the application deadline, go on to Step 4.
4. Final Report Cards
Have electronic versions of your child’s final report cards from the previous two years. You can upload them directly in the online application, or email them to email@example.com.
5. Formal Assessments
Kindergarten and Grade 1 applicants gather on campus in January the year they will enroll at STS. They participate in a group assessment for pre-readiness skills in literacy, numeracy, and social responsibility. You’ll receive additional details during the application process; no need to take any action now.
Grades 2-5 are assessed one-on-one when they come for their personalized tour.
Grades 6-12 are required to take the Secondary School Admission Test (SSAT). Please visit www.ssat.org for local testing dates and locations. SSAT scores are sent directly to the Enrollment Office through SSAT. If you are unable to take the test, please contact the Enrollment Office at firstname.lastname@example.org to discuss. Note: This test is in addition to the interview at STS (see item 1).
6. Character Skills Snapshot
This short online test is required for applicants in Grades 6-12. You can complete it on the SSAT website. Why do we want the Character Skills Snapshot? Report cards and academic assessments only give insight into one aspect of your child. We like to have additional information to help students transition to our school and to thrive here.
