Our ideal student

What are we looking for in our applicants?

If your motto matches ours, that’s a great start:  Nil Nisi Optimum - nothing but your best.

Our ideal STS student is ready and willing to challenge themselves intellectually, physically and personally. She or he understands that life is full of opportunity to discover their potential through a variety of endeavours. And that becoming a well-rounded citizen takes exploration, willingness and an adventurous outlook.

Academic ability is one of three core characteristics we nurture at STS. We place equally high importance on leadership and character.

Perhaps you’ve been described as one who has the gift of the gab, endless energy or a creative spirit. At STS, that’s called a great participant. Maybe you’ve been told that you ask too many questions. Here, that’s called relentless curiosity and is encouraged.

Maybe you’re shy, but want to try new things. The STS culture of participation grew inside a tradition of support and encouragement. You’ll always feel safe to stretch yourself here.

Some may have called you bossy, but we see a young person with initiative. We can help harness that into inspiring leadership. And if you’ve ever been accused of being too kind, generous or find yourself always standing up for the little guy, that’s the character we foster.

If you can apply yourself to all kinds of challenges while maintaining compassion, kindness and a sense of fun, you’ll feel right at home with the Strathcona-Tweedsmuir family.
