Virtual Homecoming a Success!
For the first time in Strathcona-Tweedsmuir School history, our STS alumni community came together virtually to celebrate Homecoming, October 15 - 17, 2020. As we continue to adjust to the realities of the COVID-19 pandemic, the difficult decision was made to cancel all in-person activities related to Homecoming and Fall Fair 2020. Our Alumni Association, in partnership with the Advancement Team, quickly pivoted and held a virtual Homecoming Celebration that brought fun and unique events to connect and celebrate our alumni community. In total, 19 virtual events were held throughout the three days, offering a variety of activities for all ages.
We were treated to virtual activities that included: wine and beer tasting classes, yoga, a cooking class, coffee brewing tips, an art exhibit, zoom theatre and creative games for children, webinars on entrepreneurship, What’s new in Snowbirding, outdoor education and common job search pitfalls; as well as, a virtual Open House and School Tour. A special virtual celebration was held to honour this years’ 2020 Nil Nisi Optimum Notable alumni, Alex Aspinall ’86, Jaspreet Khangura ’03, and Sarah (Shaikh) Hall ’95 for their contribution to the STS community and their impressive career successes. These alumni were selected from a multitude of decades and professions, and have brought great hour and pride to their alma mater.
In conjunction with the virtual Homecoming, five virtual class parties were held throughout the weekend (1978, 1981, 1990, 1992, 1995), organized by each class representatives.
Alumni from as far away as Scotland, Italy, various locations in Canada and the USA, zoomed in to connect with their alma mater during our virtual Homecoming celebration. Thank you to everyone who participated!
