Eight-time 2A Provincial Cross-Country Champions
Saturday, October 21 was a beautiful fall day in Edmonton for a cross-country meet with ideal conditions. We entered with 14 excited runners ready to defend the banner. Having not seen the other runners from the other Zones, it's always a little nerve-wracking knowing how you will stack up against the competition. We knew that there were other schools with more runners than us so it was that much more important to have our runners put forth their best effort.
The course had some gently rolling terrain with an official toboggan hill thrown in the middle that runners had to tackle multiple times. Pacing was key.
In the end, our Spartans prevailed again. Please congratulate the runners: Nyah C. ‘20, Lauryn L. ‘20, Matthew B. ‘20, Cooper P. ‘20, Bishneet S. ‘20, Emma C. ‘18, Matthew B. ‘19, Konrad K. ‘19, Jeremy PL. ‘19, Emily B. ‘18, Spencer K. ‘18, Henry M. ‘18, Oliver T. ‘18, and Kyle W. ‘18. This marks the eighth consecutive provincial 2A banner for the cross-country Spartans; a wonderful achievement.
Lauryn L. ’20 was our top female runner, finishing 20th in a competitive Junior Girls race and Kyle W. ‘18 was our top male runner, finishing 27th with multiple trips up and over the toboggan hill. Additional congratulations go to Oliver T. ’18, the only senior Spartan runner this year to have won three zone and three provincial banners.
Special recognition was given by ASAA executive director, John Paton, to STS' Mr. Rob Lederer for his masterful coaching over the years leading to eight consecutive 2A Provincial Cross-Country championships.
