Strong showing for Spartans at Cross Country zone and Provincial finals
Please join us in congratulating the Senior School Cross Country running team for their strong results as the Cross Country season came to an end this week.
The Spartans began by successfully defending and retaining the South Central Zone Banner at last Wednesday’s Zone Meet, qualifying 15 runners to compete in the culminating Provincial championship.
The team followed that up by winning bronze at the Provincial Cross Country championship at Echo Dale Regional Park this past weekend. The weather finally cooperated with sunny skies and a light breeze, and our fifteen runners were ready. It was an immensely challenging course, with lots of fast flat sections, but also a daunting hill that was absolutely relentless as it climbed steeply for what seemed like forever. Despite the tough course, the coaches were impressed by some gutsy and strong performances with many of the runners improving their placings from previous years.
Our rivals, Raymond from the South Zone and St. Timothy’s from Calgary also had some stellar performances and they ended up coming out ahead in first and second respectively, with the smallest point differential that I can recall. A mere 15 points separated us from second place and Raymond won by less than a hundred points.
Please join us in congratulating the team: Talia R. ’22, Robyn L. ’22, Sophia S. ’21, Jhana V.Z. ’21, Rebecca L. ’22, Kaitlyn L. ’20, Nyah C. ’20, Kiarra S.’20, Kiyan S. ’21, Tim M. ’21, Garret W. ’21, Jake B. ’21, Cooper P. ’20, Bishneet S. ’20, Matthew B. ’20, and trainer, Reid L. ’21.
Kiarra Sears also was recognized with a sportsmanship pin for coming to the aid of a struggling runner from another school. This is very significant at an event such as this as there are only ten pins awarded and they can go to any of the 800+ athletes or coaches or spectators.
Thank you for your support throughout the season.
